Church of the Santissima TrinitàCommissioned by the confraternity of the SS. Trinità to Ascanio Vittozzi (1598-1606), who is there buried, it overlooks via Garibaldi. Church of the Santissima Trinità In 1831 the ancient façade was substituted by the actual neo-classical prospect (Angelo Marchini), tripartite by a system of semi-pillars and surmounted by a triangular tympanum, in which a bas-relief depicts the crowning of the Virgin. The interior, with décor based on a drawing by Filippo Juvarra (1717), is a triangular plan in the centre, anticipated by a vast entrance vestibule and surmounted by a dome placed on a high tambour with six large windows. The dome, which is not finished outside, has got frescoes by Francesco Gonin and Luigi Vacca (1844-1847). The central space communicates with the vestibule through three doors; in the circular environment there are three altars and three chancels. The repetition of the number three in the church scheme immediately recalls the Holy Trinity, to which the consecrated to. Information: |
