Museo Nazionale del Cinema (Cinema National Museum)The Cinema National Museum of Turin was born in 1941 based on a project by Maria Adriana Prolo, collectionist and historian. Cinema National Museum In September 1956, after having arduously succeeded in obtaining the support of public and private bodies, she had her dream come true: the museum opened in the rooms of the Chiablese palace, next to the Royal Palace, finally placing her precious collections at scholars and visitors' disposal. Now the Cinema National Museum's seat is in the Mole Antonelliana: inaugurated in July 2000, the spectacular design of the architect Francois Confino, transformed the monument, symbol of the city, in a vertical museum, unique in the world. Since 1953 the museum is member of the Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film (fiaf) and in 1992 it became Foundation thanks to the support of the Piedmont Region, the Municiplity of Turin, the Turin province, the Cassa di Risparmio di Torino and of the Associazione Museo Nazionale del Cinema. The museum's property includes the collections dedicated to the cinema's archaeology (Prolo and Barnes collections), to the history of photography (tools and accessorizes, photographical documents), to the cinema's collections (posters and advertisements, photographical documents, tools and accessorizes, sets' materials, collections of recordings and tape recordings) and a huge film library constituted by more than 7,000 films, which, belonging to different cinematographies, run through the cinema's history from the origins to present days.
