Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella Agnelli (Giovanni and Marella Agnelli's Picture-gallery)Inaugurated on September 22nd, 2002, it is a gift that Giovanni and Marella Agnelli wanted to do to the city of Turin, giving a part of the family collection to a foundation that carries their names and that controls the activities of the picture-gallery. The picture-gallery, which has its seat in the Lingotto, a magnificent example of the industrial architecture re-projected by Renzo Piano, is hosted by a hanging structure, which vaguely remember a ship enlightened form the above, by a crystal roof with little wings which filters the sunlight. Giovanni and Marella Agnelli's Picture-gallery The Genoese architect, who signed the restructuring of the Lingotto, christened his last creature the "Scrigno" (Casket), a steel body with a surface of 450 square metres 34 metres high above the famous test track on the roof of the building, in which there are 25 woks of art by the private collection of the "Avvocato" and his wife and that are part of the permanent collection. Under this floor there are rooms which host temporary exhibitions and spaces reserved to the visitors: bookshop, didactic centre for art, offices and ticket office. Inside, among the several works of art, there are six beautiful paintings of the Canaletto, portraying Venice and an Alabardiere of the Tiepolo; seven paintings by Matisse, realized at the beginning of the 29th century, with Mediterranean and bright colours, two works of art by Picasso, one of the blue period and the other one, the Uomo appoggiato a un tavolo, of the cubist period; these are the masterpieces of the whole collection; moreover, a painting by Renoir and one by Manet, which represent the interest of Giovanni and Marella Agnelli for the impressionism. The Velocità astratta by Giovanni Balla and the Lancieri italiani al galoppo by Gino Severini, instead are examples of the attentino for the Italian art of the first years of the 20th century. Two beautiful sculptures of female dancers by Antonio Canova testify the love for the arts and for the beautiful of the couple. With the opening of the Giovanni and Marella Agnelli's Picture-gallery the restructuring of the Lingotto finished, and it was transformed from a futuristic industry in the 1930s to an entertainment and culture centre, a congress centre, the Auditorium for concerts, the shopping mall of 8 Gallery, a multiplex, tertiary offices, the Hotel Le Meridien and the Picture-gallery.
