This one, with and equestrian monument to Carlo Alberto (Carlo Marocchetti, 1861), is bounded on the opposite side by the neoclassical façade of the former stables of the prince of Carignano, annexed to the modern building of the University National Library (1959-1973). Palazzo Carignano, where Carlo Alberto and Vittorio Emanuele II were born, was the seat of the first Sub Alpine Parliament and then of the first Italian Parliament, until the capital was moved to Florence in 1865. The building hosts at present the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento, the Sub Alpine Deputation of the Homeland History, the Institute of Studies of the Risorgimento History and the Superintendence for the Artistic and Historical Goods of Piedmont.
